AI Meeting Assistants That Work Without Internet
Most notetakers stop working the moment the Wi-Fi drops. A handful keep transcribing, and only two of the tools we rank can also write the summary with no connection at all.

The best offline AI meeting assistant in 2026 is Hedy. With Local AI enabled on supported hardware it runs transcription, summaries, and live coaching with no internet connection, on Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, and capable Android phones. MacWhisper transcribes offline on a Mac by default and can summarise offline if you set up a local model yourself. Krisp, TwinMind, and Notta work partly offline: they can transcribe without a connection, but their AI notes need the cloud.
"Works offline" covers three very different things. Some tools only record offline and process everything once you reconnect. Some can transcribe offline with a smaller on-device speech model, but need the cloud for summaries and action items. A very small number run the whole pipeline, transcript and AI notes, on your own hardware. We rank tools on which of the three they actually do, tested the simple way: turn off the network, hold a meeting, and see what you get.
Hedy
Editor's Pick On-DeviceAI meeting coach with full on-device AI and real-time intelligence
The only meeting assistant among the 28 we tested with a built-in option to run its entire AI pipeline (transcription, summaries, and real-time coaching) on-device on supported hardware, making it the privacy and reliability leader for 2026.
MacWhisper
On-DeviceLocal transcription app for Mac and iOS with on-device Whisper and Parakeet models
A fast, private transcriber that has grown toward a lightweight meeting assistant for Apple users, though it still stops short of real collaboration or cross-meeting intelligence.
Krisp
On-DeviceAI noise cancellation with multilingual transcription and meeting notes
A noise-cancellation leader that has quietly grown into a full AI meeting assistant with multilingual notes, AI chat, and CRM sync.
TwinMind
CloudAI second brain that captures and remembers your conversations
A fast-improving second-brain app with strong transcription and bot-free capture on phone and desktop, held back mainly by cloud-dependent AI and thin integrations.
Notta
CloudAI meeting assistant with multilingual transcription
A capable multilingual cloud transcriber that has grown its platform and integration story, but real-time translation now costs extra and only transcription, in a few languages, can run on-device.

When Offline Actually Matters
Unreliable connections are the obvious case. Flights, trains, client sites with locked-down guest Wi-Fi, rural offices, and conference halls where a thousand phones share one access point all break cloud notetakers in the same way: the recording may survive, but the transcript arrives hours later or not at all. A tool that transcribes on the device keeps working, and one that also summarises on the device gives you the follow-up email before you land.
Secure facilities are the less obvious one. Government sites, labs, trading floors, and some hospital wards restrict or ban outbound connections from personal devices. In those rooms a cloud notetaker is not a privacy risk to weigh; it is simply unusable. Fully local processing is the only option that works, which is why offline support is also the clearest proof of the privacy claim. If a tool works with the network off, the audio is not going anywhere. Our privacy guide uses exactly that test.
Check the hardware requirement before you rely on it. On-device AI needs a capable chip. Hedy's Local AI runs on Apple Silicon Macs, capable Windows GPUs, iPhone 15 Pro and newer, recent iPads, and Android phones with a supported GPU and around 8 GB of memory; older devices fall back to the cloud. MacWhisper runs on any modern Mac, but its offline summaries depend on a local model you install and manage yourself. Run one test meeting in airplane mode before the trip, not on it.
